VULVA Art, Craft and Teachings to Help Heal Vulva Shame
By Zoe Awen
I wanted to develop another way of studying female anatomy, not just from a medical or observational perspective, but from a creative one.
Yoni Listening is a unique art project and a new way of experiencing the female landscape.
I have created visual art, soundscapes, meditations and craft workshops designed to express the magical power of the vulva and vagina, and heal shame with creativity.
Using listening techniques, recording technology, drawing, craft, and even poetry, I take what is known and limiting about the vagina, to bring into reality what is possible; a world where vaginas are not shamed and where to express the female experience is not considered ‘other’ or taboo.
The word “yoni” is a Sanskrit term, often used to describe female genitalia (including the vulva, vagina and womb) and means sacred space.

Hi, I’m Zoe
I am passionate about women’s and vulva owner’s health and creativity! My art and research is dedicated to expressing our diverse, unedited bodies and I specialise in vulva art, figurative drawing and nude life modelling. As a qualified tertiary art teacher with over a decade of teaching experience, I have helped countless students connect with their innate creative expression.
I have over 15 years experience drawing the naked body and a Masters in Creative Research, I know a thing or two about the creative process! I use body empowerment coaching and creative mindfulness in all my art workshops.
Through art and being a nude life art model myself, I have healed my own negative body image, vulva shame and awakened creativity and pleasure in my daily life!
People don’t just come to my art workshops to learn how to draw… they deeply desire to reconnect with their bodies, pleasure and express themselves.
Now a Masters student of Psychotherapy & Counselling, I am dedicated to sharing art for self esteem, weaving body image art therapy and counselling with art and craft.

“I had this crazy idea that if we could share our vagina’s sounds, share the different experiences at varying times in our cycle over a simple cup of tea, then we can alleviate so much pain and suffering. Our vaginas have a voice!”
